This fourth volume in the series The coroplastic art of ancient Cyprus surveys small size male statuettes of the Cypro-Archaic I-II periods. Since the quantity of material available is vast it has not been possible to include as many of the existing specimens of each type or group as was done in Volumes I-III. Thus in compiling the volume we were confronted with the problem of dealing with a smaller number of selected specimens and studying their stylistic development and chronology in considerable depth. However, this would have been a difficult task, and the outcome would probable have been disappointing, in view of the conservative character of Cypriote art which (in contras to Greek art), developed rather slowly.
