Jonathan Goodliffe left England for the freedom and promise of a young America. He went to frontier Kansas, when it was a raw, new land, a stopping point for restless people following the American dream westward. But Jonathan dreamed a different dream. To him the raw frontier was more than a place to rest before pushing on – for him it was an opportunity and a chance to prove himself. And so he stayed, even when his family moved on. He stayed to build a town, to teach, to love and marry, to raise his children, to carve out of the frontier the land America has become.
