It is true that a great many excellent books have been written about Meteora and its rocks and monasteries, and that the visitor has a wide range of choice. Amongst them one might also include my own book, Τρίκαλα-Καλαμπάκα-Μετέωρα-Πίνδος-Χάσια: Γεωγραφία-Ιστορία-Μνημεία-Τουρισμός, which was published in 1987 and deals with the whole of the prefecture of Trikala. It is a thick book, however with hundreds of colour photographs, which is hardly conductive to mass circulation. Consequently, it seemed advisable to take out the section on Meteora, Kalambaka, and the surrounding area, and publish it separately. The present volume, then, is a carefully selected, supplemented, and revised part of the longer book.
