The idea of organizing an international colloquium on Cypriote terracottas grew out of a series of discussions held at the April 1988 Edinburgh and London conferences and continues in Cyprus. […] The many specialists involved in the study of Cypriote terracottas, in Cyprus and abroad, felt the need for preliminary discussion of some of the problems in their field. Ten countries were represented in Brussels and Liege. In alphabetical order they were: Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Six themes were chosen for the conference: testimonies, interconnections, everyday life, religion, techniques and workshops, origins and development. The discussions were continued in Amsterdam at the Allard Pierson Museum where two papers on some of the Cypriote terracottas in the Museum were presented.
