The motivation for writing this work was the intense propaganda put forth by Skopje to promote the so-called “Macedonian Question” in Yugoslavia and elsewhere. This propaganda, most pronounced in 1988, continues today with pseudo-scientific arguments and is very well organized. On the other hand, the response from the Greek academic community was lukewark. So, with the publication of this book, I tried to fill a gap in the Greek historiography: the lack of an inclusive and easy to read book treating the “Macedonian Question” from a Greek point of view. The book needed to present, as objectively as possible, all the important events from 1870 to today, in hopes of educating the layman.
